? ? ? The centre was founded in 1981 by M.G.Petrov, a St.Petersburg merchant, in honour of St.Georgii Vladimirskii. Currently it is governed by the Committee for Affairs of the Family, Children and Youth of the St.Petersburg city Administration. Disadvantaged adolescent girls aged from 13 to 18 who have been deprived of parental care, housing and means of subsistence are offered medical, psychological and pedagogical support, social and legal protection. Their backgrounds are varied, but all have suffered or had one or more difficult experiences with vagrancy, hunger, theft, adolescent prostitution, early alcoholism, addition to toxic and narcotic substances, cruelty or violence, resulting in retarded psychological development.
